In a year where every upturned stone reveals a new band promising to change the face of music, it takes a unique talent to stand out from the crowd. With his singular vision, 24 year old Tom Vek has managed to cut through the swathes of skinny ties and angular guitars to claim a space of his own, with his highly original, uncompromising sound.
'Nothing But Green Lights' is the latest single to be taken from Tom Vek's acclaimed debut album, We Have Sound. A loose-limbed, groove heavy, celebration of a song, ‘…Green Lights' weaves Tom's enigmatic vocals over a raft of shimmering keyboards and strident bass guitar. A true highlight of his live shows, '…Green Lights' has an optimistic swagger that sweeps along everything in its path.
A multi-instrumentalist, Tom played all the parts on 'Nothing But Green Lights' (and the rest of the album) himself, recording in his parents' garage, where he had been creating music since the age of 14. After completing both a graphic design degree at St Martins, and a series of varied musical experiments with Tummy Touch records, We Have Sound finally came to fruition in Spring 2004 with a little help from producer Tom Rixton.
After a sell-out UK tour earlier this year, and a hectic summer of festival appearances, Tom Vek heads back out for a UK headline tour this October. Live, Tom's material is given a different twist, with the help of a four piece band made up of friends from earlier musical incarnations.
Tom Vek's ever growing UK success hasn't gone unnoticed overseas; September sees Tom playing a series of dates across Europe and in the US, with more to follow later this Autumn. For Tom Vek it seems that, after years of uncompromising hard work, there might just be "nothing but green lights from here..."
