Hard to catagorise, the new rave tag has been applied and although they have been supported by DJs at parties where illegal substances have been consumed and glow sticks waved, their riotous gigs show them to be equally at home performing live with their groove laden, cross genre, anthem heavy fare. If anything, they almost demand a new genre – new baggy perhaps with the Sunshine Underground providing the Northern working class wing.
The four members met in their native Shrewsbury and collectively moved to Leeds a couple of years ago. By the start of 2005 the band had signed to City Rockers and early singles, Put You In Your Place and I Ain’t Losing Any Sleep garnered acclaim from XFM and the NME.
The Sunshine Underground are: Craig Wellington (vocal / guitar), Stuart Jones (guitar), Daley Smith (bass) & Matthew Gwilt (drums). |
