The four members met in their native Shrewsbury and collectively moved to Leeds a couple of years ago. By the start of 2005 the band had signed to City Rockers and early singles, Commercial Breakdown and I Ain’t Losing Any Sleep garnered acclaim from XFM and the NME while their raucous, celebratory live shows were met with unanimous praise.
The new single, Put You In You Place, features on their debut album, Raise The Alarm, which is set for release in late August 2006, just before their appearance at this years Reading / Leeds festivals. Recorded with Dan Kahuna (FC Kahuna), Segs and Steve Dubb the 12 track album perfectly captures the spirit of the band that falls somewhere between the Happy Mondays, PIL or The Rapture.
The Sunshine Underground are: Craig Wellington (vocal / guitar), Stuart Jones (guitar), Daley Smith (bass) & Matthew Gwilt (drums).
