RELEASE FIRST TWO ALBUMS IN THE UK FOR THE FIRST TIME:
'PETER BJORN AND JOHN' AND 'FALLING DOWN'
RELEASED 5th MARCH ON WICHITA RECORDINGS
After 2006 saw their first UK release in the phenomenon that was 'Young Folks' and the critically-acclaimed album 'Writers Block', Peter Bjorn And John are starting to make up for lost time by releasing for the first time the albums 'Peter Bjorn And John' and 'Falling Out'.
'Peter Bjorn And John', the band's red album, is a charming affair, like the first steps of a love affair. It's an album where the band found its feet, worked out how to do things, so that their next step would be one step closer to the realisation of the band's vision.
The album marked the start of a new relationship for all three members of the band. From the start, the band knew what they wanted to do, if the beginnings saw a slightly hazy vision.
'We wanted to make good pop music, humble and personal, we had no aim to change the world. We haven't really changed that much, we still do the same thing really. Fast songs, slow songs, melodies and rhythms' Peter explains.
There is also a sense of celebration in the record as John explains. 'I was happy to finally be in a band that would release a proper record.'
The band learned how to record, where they wanted to stand and which way they wanted to go. The next step was 'Falling Out'.
Recorded in the band's spare time in late 2003 and early 2004, 'Falling Out' has a unifying theme, from the words and the sound to the bleak black and white album sleeve which gave a nod to the third Velvet Underground album.
'Falling Out' represents the closest the band have come to recreating their live sound on record. It's also Peter Bjorn And John angry and bitter. It's a break-up record, and as is often the case, these emotions make for a brilliant record, with the band channelling the energy into their songs and creating at times something sweeping and grandiose. Recorded at Christmas, there's a chill to the record that makes it all the more affecting.
'Falling Down' is released with tracks that made up the 'Beats, Traps And Backgrounds EP' which includes live favourite '(I Just Wanna) See Through'.
