An important year for musical creativity and diversity is highlighted by the 12 Albums
of the Year shortlisted for the 2007 Nationwide Mercury Prize, announced on Tuesday 17 July.
"This year's Nationwide Mercury Prize shortlist celebrates a remarkable range of artists who use their albums
to tell stories, shape moods, explore emotions and lift the spirits," says Simon Frith, Chair of Judges. "The list marks the emergence of a wealth of eclectic talent making music with great energy, excitement and personality."

Maxïmo Park release a new single Girls Who Play Guitars through Warp Records on Monday 20th August. Girls Who Play Guitars is the follow-up to the hit singles Books From Boxes, and the Top Ten smash, Our Velocity. The single will be available on CD single, two x 7” coloured vinyl and download.

Super Furry Animals return with the first single from their forthcoming new album 'Hey Venus!', due for release later in August.
'Show Your Hand' is classic SFA. A dose of soul, a pinch of furry experimentalism and a huge dollop of sublime Pop mixed into one summer classic.
As one of the best live bands this island has ever spawned it seemed fitting that they should be hitting the road for a series of both small club and festival headlining shows over the summer months.
