Clap Your Hands Say Yeah are a five piece consisting of Philadelphian songwriter Alec Ounsworth (vocals/guitar) and Brooklyn-based Lee Sargent (guitar/keyboards), his twin brother Tyler Sargent (bass/backing vocals), Robbie Guertin (guitar/keyboards) and Sean Greenhalgh (drums).
The band's US live shows generated an astonishing word of mouth that led to album sales of over 25,000 copies, all of which they packed and posted from their own apartments. Since then, Alternative Distribution Alliance (ADA) has stepped in and agreed to distribute the album in shops across North America, only the second time ever that ADA has worked directly with an unsigned band. The album has now sold over 50,000 copies in the US.
Signed to independent label Wichita Recordings for the world outside North America, the success of Clap Your Hands Say Yeah has all been incredibly organic and is a sign of just how far this band are destined to go in the future. They have already been tipped by the BBC, NME, Mojo, Q, Uncut, Music Week, The Sun and Evening Standard as THE band for 2006...
