Following the success of the inaugural African Soul Rebels Tour 2005, Amadou and Mariam headline the tour in 2006, when another trio of lush and challenging musical sensations from Africa return to the UK.
The formidably funky Malian duo Amadou & Mariam are currently experiencing a rare form of vertigo with the dizzy success of their Manu Chao produced platter Dimanche à Bamako, one of the best selling African records in recent years. Algerian superstar Souad Massi has been seducing the world with her mould-breaking ballads of tender loss and defiance. Sudanese rap prodigy Emmanuel Jal is the most enticing new prospect that Africa's furiously fertile hip-hop scene has opened up in a long time.
Each of these artists already generates feverish interest in their own right and all three have been nominated for
BBC World Music Awards in 2006. Once again, African Soul Rebels take the high road to prove that the music coming out of Africa is amongst the freshest, most innovative and radically relevant on offer in the world today.
